It’s been a year since I was there and the memories are starting to fade, so forgive me if I’m not overly wordy.
Miraflores Park – home to several dozen cats, near lots of great restaurants (Lima food will be its own post).
At “MALI” – Museo de Arte Lima
My second favorite thing at MALI – a gigantic piece of pottery depicting the main ruling families of Nazca using animals. I called it the Game of Thrones pot.
My absolute favorite thing at MALI – one of the employees described the story to me in Spanish. A priest fell in love with an indigenous woman, but he obviously couldn’t marry her. He eventually left the city, but returned many years later to marry her, only to find the woman had died. He dug up her grave and stole one of her bones and carved it into a flute, and used it to play a love song in her honor. Years later, when he finally died, demons came to his funeral to take his soul, as they claimed that digging up the woman showed the priest was evil, and therefore belonged to them. Angels came and blocked the demons, saying that the priest had such intense love in his heart that he couldn’t be evil. The angels ended up winning, and the priest was buried in peace.
Boardwalk overlooking the coast, complete with lots of paragliders.
Downtown area of Lima.
