Erin Explores

Granite Mountain, WA state

This hike kicked my butt! We were in the middle of a heat wave, and it was the steepest hike I’ve tried. And that’s not even including the alternate route I took to the summit to avoid the snow. I scrambled along a huge field of giant boulders and even bigger gaps between them. This was just before the summit, and I was so close, I didn’t want to turn around. But it was hot as heck on those dark stones with a large day pack on my back.

Please don’t think I’m complaining! I had a good time, the views at the top were phenomenal, and I felt good for pushing myself. If I can make it through a beast of a hike like that, I can do almost anything.

The view from the top! The Ranger at the lookout hut had just baked some chocolate chip cookies, and was sharing them with everyone that came up. I’ve never had a fresh from the oven cookie at the top of a mountain before. It was a neat experience!

I’m hoping to do this hike again later this summer and halve my round-trip time. 🙂
