Erin Explores

Zermatt, Switzerland (July 2014)

The small town of Zermatt is snuggled right up against the end of a valley, at the base of the Matterhorn. The Matterhorn (14,692ft) is the iconic silhouette of the Swiss Alps, and one of its tallest peaks.

Below are a few pictures of the cute town…

The mountain was hidden behind clouds almost the entire time I was there…

Because of this, I didn’t do the hike I wanted to do. Even with my Half Fare Card (which had already paid for itself) it wasn’t worth the price of the lift up to the trailhead if I wouldn’t be able to see the mountain at all. I assume I’ll be back though!

I still enjoyed my time in the town…

The cemetery was filled with people connected to the mountain – either they accomplished something great there, or it claimed their life.

On my final morning, the mountain came out for about 15 minutes, then went into hiding again.
