For Semana Santa (Easter) my grandmother and brother came to visit me. It was so great to see them again, and to introduce them to Spain. We also went to Italy together but this post is just for Madrid. My grandmother’s favorite part was all the old architecture in Madrid. My brother’s favorite part was all the amazing food. My favorite part was just to see them and spend time with them, but Italy was pretty darn amazing too.
Arriving in Madrid…
The first day in Madrid, we took an open-top bus ride around the city. Kinda cheesy yeah, but it was a good introduction to Madrid.
We also went to the roof of the Bellas Artes building for a great view of the Metropolis Building.
Next we had lunch at 100 Montaditos, yum!
Uh oh, jetlag has arrived…
Later that day we visited Plaza de España, Temple of Debod, and Richard tried sea urchin and later, paella.
The Royal Palace was extraordinary and sprawling. All the rooms were furnished with lush furniture, paintings, velvet, gold, you name it. It was really neat to see. I would definitely recommend it for anyone visiting Madrid.
Retiro Park! It was really nice to get away from the hustle and bustle a bit and enjoy the nature and the fountains.
Plaza Mayor!
Us and the Neptune Fountain
Going to a Flamenco show!
