Bavaria for Christmas

Tomorrow night I will catch a plane to Zurich, sleep in the airport until 7am, then catch a plane to Munich, followed by a train to Rothenberg ob der Tauber. This is an extremely well-preserved medieval town, and they go all-out for Christmas. It’s supposed to be extremely beautiful and magical like Santa’s Workshop. Maybe I’ll see an elf or two!

On Christmas Eve I’ll catch a train to Füssen, where I’ll continue my tradition of watching It’s A Wonderful Life, like every Christmas Eve. I was worried I would have nothing to do on Christmas Day besides watch Christmas movies on my laptop. I thought everything would be closed. Turns out the super swanky spa is open on Christmas Day. Hello rooftop spa with a view of Neuschwanstein, plus a massage! This is my splurge for this trip, everything else is pretty cheap.

On the 26th I’ll visit the 2 castles, Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein. If you google some pictures you can see how beautiful these castles are…. maybe they will even be snow-capped while I’m there!

On the 27th I’ll take the train back to Munich, where I’ll have 5 hours to enjoy the city before I have to go to the airport.

Assuming it all goes as planned, it should be a pretty good trip! And assuming I translated the German bus schedules correctly…
